Oliver inherits a large colonial house in the coastal village of Suances, Cantabria. In renovating the house they find the squashed corpse of a baby, alongside something completely anachronistic. Soon after this discovery there are a string of murders in the area which, linked to the unusual forensic results of the bodies, put the Civil Guard's Investigations Department and Oliver himself in a tight spot, and Oliver begins a personal journey and a race against the clock to discover the murderer. The novel is pure fiction, but most of the historical details are true. The technical details have been developed and checked with the help of the Civil Guard's Central Operative Unit, the Judicial Police's Investigations Department, the Civil Guard Headquarters and the Institute of Legal Medicine.
