SYNOPSIS

An old friends’ reunion in a mountain lodge gathers a dozen men and women with nothing in common, except an obscure episode in the past in which they were all involved. It left a lasting mark on them all, and it’s perhaps the true and unspeakable reason behind this nostalgic anniversary that nobody seems to be keen on celebrating. A sudden event will completely disturb their plans, forcing them to remain united and work as a team in order to discover the real nature and gauge the consequences of what has happened. Subjected to an ever-increasing pressure, each of them will interpret the events according to their own particular set of obsessions, and from amongst confessions, indiscretions and long-held quarrels, a complex and sordid map of their relationships in the past will emerge, while the shadow of a threat becomes palpable and increasingly near.

Press reviews:

“The End is a psychological novel shaped like a terror or science-fiction novel: terrifying and touching. It echoes Rulfo and El Jarama by Sánchez Ferlosio. Describing a horrific action, Monteagudo analyses our daily terrors. It is full of shadows and obscure obsessions, the characters are perfectly shaped! Enormous literature. The End is the beginning”. Jordi Llavina, La Vanguardia

“Gorgeous… With its generational and metaphysic winks, its buñuelescal style, its shady atmosphere and its literary quality, this unusual opera prima by David Monteagudo is one of the surprises of this season. It starts like a conventional terror story and it ends like Cormac McCarthy’s stories, it reinvents Mecanoscrit del segon origen and it remains in your memory like La pell freda”. Ricard Ruiz Garzón, El Periódico
